  2. Make ready 1/2 cup moong dal

  6. Prepare 1 tsp cumin seeds
  7. Take 2 tbsp ghee
  8. Make ready 1 pinch asafoetida
  9. Get Salt as required

Saamai arisi ven pongal / little millet pongal recipe. Samai Pongal (Little Millet Pongal) is a delicious and healthy pongal variation. Best suited for breakfast, it is best served hot with sambar and chutney. I am in the phase of trying varieties of millet recipes now.

Instructions to make Saamai (little millet) Pongal:
  1. Wash saamai and moong dal together.
  2. Add water and required salt. Pressure cook it for 3 whistles.
  3. To Temper: Heat a small pan with ghee, add cashews and fry until golden brown. Keep aside. In the same pan, add cumin seeds, pepper, asafoetida, green chilly. Let it splutter. Pour this to cooked Pongal and stir it.
  4. Serve with coconut chutney and sambar.
